Blogging For Free – 5 Reasons Why I Will Not Do It

I have been blogging on Her Review for about a year now.  Her Review is a sister site of BagLady Promotions and the BLP ConnectHER 2012 Conference and Influential Event.  Many of you know me as a Connector.  I take a lot of pride in everything I do and I jump up and down when I connect two people where they can join in a business venture together.  I have worked very hard for the past 4 years, and I mean like sleep deprivation and waking up to work one hour before my little one wakes up .

Along the way, my husband has been great in supporting me by filling in during situations where I might have a deadline or need to run to a meeting or something along those lines.  Anyway, many times I left my home for an event while my daughter cried through the window because “mommy” was not going to be  there to tuck her in.  She loves Daddy a whole lot, but her and I have a very strong bond.  That was very hard for her.  She is a little older now so she gets it or is use to it by now.  I think as a Mompreneur and blogger, I have grown smarter and stronger and it is very important for me to keep my identity as a professional woman in business.  No doubt, I have worked hard to get to where I am now.

I recently began working with Nicole McDowell of Get The Sale Now – I have to admit, I was a little skeptical at first.  Sales?! ugh.. I thought. Well, what I found was that she had some very good tips on how to make money.  And really, it was not about money like, ” I have to make a million dollars”  it was more about giving value to what you do.  It was about learning and realizing that as an influencer, I give value and bring value to a business, brand, or organization.

Although I will take on projects pro bono, those will be based on the nature of the campaign or if it is genuinely of interest to me.

The 5 reasons why I won’t blog for free anymore (and you should not either) are:

1.  Blogging for free is not worth it when I could have used that time to tuck-in my little one before bed.

2. Blogging for free devalues the work of all bloggers. “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?!”

3. Blogging for free is not worth the stress of deadlines.

4. Blogging for free takes time away from my family with no real return.

5. Blogging for free sucks. Period.

  1. Love the interactive form here!! Remember it’s all about our “exchange” with others; be it dollars or services~ don’t sell your self short ~ if you are helping their bottom line increase your bottom line should increase as well!! Always bring it back to the benefits and value you are bringing your client/s and *Free* will no longer be a part of your “mindset”

  2. I guess that is why I never started blogging for free. I ask 3 simple questions. 1 Is the company really interested in my business? 2 What is in exchange for my business? 3 Is it worth my time and money to go to event and write about it? What is worth a Blog post? Finding a great writer is hard enough.

    Thank you for the post.
